Individual Tour Descriptions
Introductory Jungle Walk - Our introductory jungle walk will take you from the shores of the San Pedro River through primary forest, ending with a stop at our overlook to view the vast wetlands that lie to the south. Along the way, learn about the medicinal uses of the trees and plants that are found in and around the biological station. Back at the station, ask to see our orchid garden for an introduction to the various species that can be found in Laguna del Tigre National Park.
Nocturnal Aquatic Spotlight Tour - Explore the Sacluc River when you join us for a night-time river tour. Using a spotlight, your guide will illuminate the nocturnal creatures that make their home here, including the endangered moreletii crocodile (Cocodrylus moreletii), bats, birds, and more.
Sunrise Birding Tour - There is no better way to greet the morning than with this birding tour which combines a guided jungle walk with a boat tour on the San Pedro River. Over 260 bird species have been identified in the surrounding Laguna del Tigre National Park. Download a list of bird species found near the Station (MS Word document).
El Peru Forest and Maya Ruins Tour - Combine your interest in wildlife and archaeology with a tour of the El Peru forest, your final destination the remote archaeological ruins at El Perú. Learn about this lost civilization and its link to the Tikal dynasty - the secrets of which are slowly being revealed by archaeologists that began excavating the El Peru site in 2003. You may glimpse howler (Alouatta pigra) and spider monkeys (Ateles geoffroyi) as they wend their way through the forest canopy, be surprised by the flash of brilliantly colored parrots as they fly overhead, or experience the delight of seeing the endangered scarlet macaw (Ara macao) in flight as it returns to its nest to tend its young (January through May).
