The Radio Soap Opera “Entre Dos Caminos” / “Sa’ xxaal li b’e” (At a Crossroads) will be launched in Spanish and in Q’eqchi’ Maya on August 8, though 2 to 3 radio stations in Peten.

At last, we know: the show will be called “Entre Dos Caminos” (“between two roads”, more precisely :”At a Crossroads”) which translates in Q’eqchi’ “Sa’ xxaal li b’e”, after months of discussions and consultations, the team agreed on this title. Over the past few months, after a heavy dose of qualitative research (focus groups, interviews...), the Radio Soap Opera team has been very busy with work related to design, pre-production and production of the radio serial drama set forth by the Remedios project. This innovative entertainment-education project aims at strengthening education and information in themes related to reproductive health, as well as environment conservation and protection, and inspiring changes in behavior through the example of the characters of the show. Specially designed to reach Petén’s rural population, the idea is, through drama, to give a representation of daily realities of life in Peten in a way that people can relate to, in Spanish and in Q’eqchi’.

Over the past few months, the team organized 2 workshops: a participatory workshop(in April) involving organizations working in the key themes of the radio soap opera, and a training for potential actors (in May) allowing for an initial casting and studio recording of an pilot episode, in Spanish and in Q’eqchi’. We organized 2 additional casting sessions in July, one for the version in Q’eqchi’ of the show, one for the version in Spanish, with more in depth training with the actors selected, actors from different parts of Petén. The scripts for each episode will have been reviewed and approved by our donor.

Please stay tuned! The show “Entre dos caminos” / “Sa’ xxaal li b’e” will be launched on August 8, both in Spanish and in Q’eqchi’, and aired 5 days a week, each day with a new episode.
